Real Estate: Nice and Vintimiglia seem set for a fight over the Swedish furniture giant

Which town will win the battle for IKEA’s new site?

Four years of battling with the Mouans-Sartoux community over a possible site for their proposed new store, has obviously tested the patience of IKEA, the famous furniture company.

Although the city of Nice jumped on the bandwagon fairly recently when it seemed that its neighbour Mouans-Sartoux was running a losing battle that appears to be old news now. Hot off the press in the Italian newspapers is news that the Swedish giant is eyeing up a location in Vintimiglia just over the border. A disused railway land north of the border city appears to be the perfect site with ample space for parking and close enough to the major towns along both the French and Italian Rivieras.

The Riviera Times has requested interviews with town officials in both Nice and Vintimiglia. We will bring you the latest information very soon.
