Provence & Cote d'Azur: Public transport nightmare in Nice as buses and trams go on strike

Strikers make for travel chaos

Commuters in Nice will need to be patient today. Industrial action, against government reforms of retirement and employment laws, has created a block on nearly all bus and tram routes.

Cars and motorcycle drivers are being advised to avoid the city center where the demonstrations started at 10am this morning.

The disgruntled workers marched from Place Masséna to boulevard Jean Jaurès, boulevard Carabacel and finally onto avenue Jean Médecin. The group was protesting against, among others things, the extension of the age of legal retirement.

The airport buses 98 and 99 and those ones traveling to and from towns in close proximity to Nice like Cappan, Séoules or Crémat are the only ones working. One TER in three is still operating but the final stops for the lines 100, 200, 230, 400 and 500 have changed (Nice harbour for the first one and Grosso-Promenade for the others).
