Provence & Côte d’Azur: Money not donations of clothes or foodstuffs is what is required
Red Cross appeal for Haiti disaster
In an interview with local paper Nice-Matin, the President of the region’s Red Cross, Simone Long, explained that donations of money were what was needed most. To get clothes, blankets and food to Haiti would be too expensive and difficult to organise from this distance, and she urged people to send money instead. In the aftermath of the 2004 tsunami in Asia the Red Cross built schools, crèches and a hospital with the 110 million euros they raised following that disaster.
In the Principality of Monaco the message is similar. While a team of first aiders is ready to leave for the island if required, the Monaco Red Cross is also requesting people to send money if they want to help. Its President, the Sovereign Prince Albert II, has already authorised a sum of 50,000 euros to be released for the stricken island.
People who would like to donate can send a check payable to: Croix-Rouge Monégasque, 27 Blvd de Suisse, MC 98000 Monaco, and mark the cheque on the back with the word “Haiti”. For the French Red Cross, check the website for details at: http://www.croix-rouge.fr
