Provence & Côte d’Azur: Exceptionally cold weather puts pressure on the system

Power cut risk high

The RTE (Réseau de transport d'électricité) responsible for France’s electricity network has issued a warning that the risk of a power cut occurring in the Alpes-Maritimes and the Var departments is high until Friday.

Unusually low temperatures for December are being blamed for the situation, with the risk of a black-out being at its highest between 5pm and 8pm.

The RTE is urging consumers to save electricity where they can by switching off lights in rooms that are not in use; turning the heating down by a couple of degrees; not leaving equipment (TV, computers, etc) on standby; and avoiding the use of washing machines and dishwashers between these hours, at least until the weekend.
