Monaco: Controversy continues to dog 170-metre Monesgasque tower

Odeon Towers: start, stop and start again

Work taking place on the Odeon towers in the Beausoleil commune, which was halted in recent days has started again. The French town’s mayor, Gerard Spinelli defiantly ordered a stop to the work in an effort to demonstrate his opposition to the towers. However, the mayor has agreed to temporarily back down on the advice of experts over safety concerns on the site.

However, it is believed that Mr. Spinelli will once again stop work in about three weeks, when the site is secure.

Recently released from prison after three months behind bars as part of an investigation into corruption surrounding the controversial towers, he is anxious to clear his name of any wrong doing and regain the trust of his town’s residents.

Opponents of the project – including some residents of Beausoleil who will be overshadowed by the 47 and 49-storey towers – continue to voice their protest and hope that the project will be permanently stopped.

Work continues to advance in the Principality.
