Monaco: MYS heralds turnaround for superyacht industry

Monaco Yacht Show 2009

Despite the fact that attendance figures were down by nine per cent on last year (27,400 visitors versus 30,000 in 2008) organisers and exhibitors at this year’s Monaco Yacht Show were very happy.

According to Luc Pettavino, Director of the show there were contracts for the purchase of yachts that were signed and many negotiations started. Also many yacht insurance contracts were completed.

Over 97 superyachts were displayed in the Principality's mythical Port Hercule, with nearly one hundred others anchored in the bays of St Jean Cap Ferrrat and Villefranche. The turnout appears to herald a positive turnaround for the super and mega yacht industry, which suffered a drop in sales of nearly 30 per cent at the height of the crisis.
