Monaco: Environment tops agenda of festive attractions this season

Eco-bubbles a hit at Xmas fair

With the long-awaited Copenhagen summit dominating headlines this week, the theme for Monaco’s Christmas Village and mini-fairground at Port Hercule seems particularly apt, as the focus is firmly on the environment.

Staunch eco campaigner HSH Prince Albert II was among those who attended the official opening on Friday evening of the village which features a large tree-shaped enclosure dedicated to recycling.

Alongside the numerous gift stalls, food outlets (socca, mulled wine, pancakes, etc) and fairground activities the biggest attraction for children up to the age of eight is proving to be the eco-bubbles. For 3 euros the child is zipped up into giant plastic bubble (pictured) before setting off to explore different climates and the “poles” - with varying degrees of success!

The fair is on until 3rd January. The Olympic-size Stade Nautique swimming pool has been turned into a skating rink which is open until 28th February.
