People & Lifestyle: The annual dips in the sea for Christmas took place in Nice and Monaco despite freezing temperatures

Charlene joins her Prince in “Bain de Noël”

Charlene Wittstock and Prince Albert II were among hardy souls who braved the unusually cold weather for the traditional "Bain de Noël" at Larvotto beach in Monaco yesterday, while in Nice 200 swimmers defied sub-zero temperatures for their swim.

At Larvotto a comparably balmy 8o C air temperature greeted the participants, although there had been snow on the beach early Saturday morning, an almost unheard of occurrence for the Principality’s sheltered micro-climate. The Prince and his girlfriend were also joined by Princess Caroline’s son, Pierre Casiraghi.

It was definitely a case of “colder out than in” for both venues as the water temperature is currently 14o C. It is the 65th year that this traditional Christmas swim has been organised in Nice, while for Monaco it was the fifth anniversary.
