Sport: The Cote capital prepares to welcome some of Tennis' biggest stars

The Nice Open returns

After a 15 year break, the Nice Open Cote d’Azur will be held next month, much to the great delight of city officials and local residents. The Nice Lawn Tennis Club will be hosting the ATP World Tour 250 series tournament between the 16th and the 22nd of May.

Last November, The Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) decided that Nice should be the new location for this event, replacing the Interwetten Austrian Open in Kitzbuhel, Austria.

The Nice Open will be sandwiched between an ATP tournament in Madrid beforehand and the famous French Open at Roland Garros to follow. Among the 28 players lined-up to compete on the outdoor clay courts of the Parc Imperial are Nikolay Davydenko, Robin Soderling, Richard Gasquet, Fernando Gonzalez and Juan Carlos Ferrero.

Nice mayor, Christian Estrosi, is already delighted with the build-up for the forthcoming event, claiming that the Open Nice Cote d’Azur is going to mark a very important moment for the city. His hope is that this is the first step in Nice regaining its status as the Mediterranean's sports capital.

Tickets for matches will cost between 7 and 45 euros.
