Sports: Canoeing and cayaking for all abilities on the Riviera

Cancayak water sports event this weekend

A wonderful way to discover a water sport and see the spectacular Riviera coastline at the same time is to participate in this year's kayak and canoe event. The popular annual canoe rally, organised by CANCA, the Communauté d'Agglomération Nice Côte d'Azur, takes place this weekend, July 7th and 8th, and is aimed at introducing novices to the sport as well as providing a great forum for the advanced to compete.

Depending on your level you can either choose to take a leisurely meander along the coast or participate in the physically demanding races, which take place over two stages: 17kms on Saturday and 23kms on Sunday. The winner will pick up a prize worth €3,000.

Free kayak trial sessions for beginners will be held in different coastal towns over the two days (Saint-Laurent-du-Var, Villefranche-sur-Mer and Beaulieu-sur-Mer). The race stretches from Cagnes-sur-Mer to Cap d'Ail.

The organising committee takes care of transport for competitors (you can leave your car parked for the entire event). Meals are also thrown in. If coming from overseas or by train it’s possible to rent a kayak here for the race. Categories comprise men, women and youths.
