The air shimmers in the heat on the shady terrace of the old Provencal property. “This was the country estate of my family, who lived in the mansion on Rue Gambetta and came here for summer breaks," says Henri Prévost-Allard, direct descendant of General Jean-François Allard. We are soon talking about one of Saint Tropez’ most beautiful love stories that locals still enjoy telling.

How did it come about that an officer from Saint Tropez married an Indian princess, and why is he buried in India and she in Saint Tropez?

Henri Prévost-Allard tells the story: "My ancestor Jean-Fançois Allard served in the Napoleonic wars and after Waterloo went across the Orient to India, where he joined the Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s army in 1822 in Lahore.
