Roma families who have lived on the banks of the Var river for up to five years now have until Friday to find new homes. Urged on by the president of the Alpes Maritimes General Council, Eric Ciotti, a court has ruled that the site is too dangerous for its hundreds of inhabitants. Provence & Côte d'Azur: The UMP president of the Alpes Maritimes General Council has launched legal proceedings to evacuate the Roma camps
President of Alpes Maritimes General Council Eric Ciotti has called for the evacuation of up to 130 Roma people who have been living beside the Var river for several months now. Ciotti has appealed to the prefecture to intervene, saying that poor hygiene and flood risks are putting children's lives in jeopardy. But he has fallen short of suggesting an alternative. The Hôtel Martinez in Cannes and the Palais de la Mediterranée in Nice have been christened under new names following a new management agreement between Chicago-based Hyatt and Constellations Hotels Holding Ltd. Swedish furnishing giant IKEA has announced that it hopes to come to a final decision this year regarding the site of a new branch in the Alpes Maritimes. Provence & Côte d'Azur: Saint Laurent du Var is the first among potentially many communes to increase tax in 2013
Tax in Saint Laurent du Var has been increased by the municipal council as part of the 2013 budget. Mayor Henri Revel claims that the 1.8 per cent hike is in line with the global crisis, which has resulted in a reduced allowance from the State.
