Provence & Côte d'Azur: The World War treasure looks to be diffused at the weekend
Workers discover World War II bomb
Police and civil security officers were called to identify the unexpected discovery at a building site in the Brusc neighbourhood of Six-Fours at around 11am. The one-metre-long and 250-kilogramme weight American bomb is believed to be one of those used towards the end of World War II.
A meeting was held this morning to discuss plans for experts to defuse the bomb. According to local newspaper Nice Matin, this operation looks to take place at the weekend. Residents within a 200 to 300 metre radius of the site could be evacuated during the process.
The site, a former municipal day camp, will remain under 24-hour surveillance until then by police.
More than 60 years after the end of World War II, an astonishing four to five war relics are discovered in the Var region each year.
