Weekend round-up ... what's on?

The weekend is finally here and once again we have a great list of local events for you to try in the picturesque French Riviera. Here is our selection…

The adrenaline will be pumping through the veins of many young individuals at Prom'sport this weekend

Menton Motor Show 

This weekend, Menton is launching it's first edition of the Salon de l'Auto-Moto, showcasing a myriad of marques and models from 39 different car firms at the Rondelli stadium in Garavan.  

The motoring celebration is set to take place  on 5000 m² of exhibition space, presenting a thrilling collection of classic and sport cars and motorbikes – it's a motorist's paradise! 

French auto maker Renault will also be exhibiting its new model, entitled Twizy, in an exclusive showing, and selected guests will have the chance to take it for a spin! 

The event has been organised by the Menton Rotary Club and is expected to attract an estimated 1,500 to 2,000 visitors this weekend, bringing together car enthusiasts from around the region. It is also hoped that the motoring experience will join the ranks of other prestigious car shows held by neighbouring Principality, Monaco. 

Admission to the event is free and parking is also available.

Nice Nord en fête

On the 9th of June, the idyllic Côte d'Azur capital will present an eclectic collection of family activities in the northern region of Nice at the Koczur Ferry stadium. 

Organised by the North Nice Sport Association, the event will bring a vibrant, colourful array of entertainment for children including face painting stands as well as bouncy castles. 

Children's creative dance clubs CAL Gorbella and Vallon des Fleurs as well as pupils from the Ray Gorbella school will be putting on a series of dazzling performances throughout the day as well as impressive folklore shows by overseas organisations. 

To close the event, an exclusive comedy performance, entitled 'Plateau Humour'  directed by Stéphanie Pareja, Clément Brun and Laurent Barat, will take place in the evening from 7.30pm. Prom'Sport 

Ready, steady, go! The adrenaline will be pumping through the veins of many young individuals at Prom'sport this weekend, a fun and creative sporting event specifically designed for children between the ages of six and 13, taking place on the 9th June in Nice.

It allows active children to demonstrate their skill, passion and commitment to a range of unusual and energetic activities. Among the sports the youngsters will get to try out will be fencing, mountain biking, laser rifle shooting, gymnastics, volleyball, climbing and kayaking. 

Taking place from 10am to 6pm at the Quai des Etats –Unis and Ponchettes beach. Admission is free.

Bio des Bouches du Rhône 

A fantastic agricultural project is being held on the 9th and 10th June, with 13 farms of all different shapes and sizes around the Provence Alpes Côte d'Azur welcoming  the public to explore their territories to to learn about how a farm works, organic production and tasting of the locally grown produce. 

The open farm event creates a fantastic opportunity for individuals – both young and old - to hear the story about the food we consume everyday and to really get in touch with agricultural lifestyle.

Numéros de cirque (Antibes)

Circus acts will be rolling into the coastal town of Antibes from the 8th to 10th June for a fun and thrilling festival at the Foch d'Antibes stadium, hosted by circus school, Rêves Funambules

Be amazed by mind blowing daredevil stunts, eye popping acrobats, high-flying trapeze acts and lunatic jugglers in this wild feast of entertainment, guaranteed to amaze audiences. 

For the first evening of this colourful three day festival, audiences will be dazzled by a mindblowing and dynamic production, entitled 'Ma meilleure amie', performed by local dancers, comedians, musicians and circus performers from the Marguerite Theatre in Anitbes, commencing from 9pm. 

Also during the festiival, local circus schools of students of all ages will present a few of their favourite numbers. The dynamic event will draw to a close on Sunday when members of the Cabaret de rêves will present a collection of wild performances.

Nice Book Festival 

Book worms are flocking to Nice for the 17th edition of the Festival du Livre which kicked off today and will run until Sunday, giving reading enthusiasts the chance to view a range of novels and poems as well as meet the authors and listen to speakers such as notorious French writer, Andreï Makine. 

A total of 200 international writers will be present, some of which will take part in signing sessions  and presentations of their work. The special theme for this year's festival is Russia, featuring creations by authors such as Vladimir Fédorovski, Alexandre Adler and Bertrand Le Meignen. 

Taking place in various locations around Nice including at the C.U.M (Centre Universitaire Méditerranéen), Louis Nuéra library, Aston Hotel as well as in the conference room at the Jardin Albert 1er - this festival is a must for all book lovers! 

Admission is free and runs from 10am to 7pm.

Monte-Carlo Television Festival 

If you fancy doing a bit of star spotting, then Monaco is the place to be this weekend. Famous international television stars such as Eva Longaria from Desperate Housewives will be strutting their stuff along the red carpet in the dazzling Principality this Sunday for the 52nd edition of the Monte Carlo Television Festival at the Grimaldi Forum. 

The four day festival is guaranteed to be one of the most glamorous rendez-vous this weekend! 

Invitations for some of the screenings can still be won at www.festivaltv.com . The Monaco USA association is offering 10 free invitations to the opening and closing ceremonies. The first 10 people who email monacousa.mc@gmail.com will win the passes. 

There are a number of free screenings for the public, including the premier of season three of Glee.

Classical concert 

The Nice Côte d'Azur opera theatre is presenting on Sunday the last family concert of the season! The morning will culminate in performances of Schubert compositions by the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra  under the direction of Frédéric Deloche. 

The concert will begin at 11am and tickets are priced at 7 euros and 5 euros for students. There is free entrance for children under the age of eight .
