New home for law enforcers will ensure safer streets in the hilltop town but comes at a hefty financial investment

Vence opens 8 million euro police station

A state-of-the-art police facility has opened in Vence. The new station, on Avenue Emilie Hugues, will be home for 25 officers and staff and is equipped with living quarters for all who work there.

Stretched over just one floor, the freshly kitted out building is a stone throw away from the old Vence police headquarters, which was, according to Lt. Jeremy Kaspite, a hell hole for his squad to live in.

With the financial assistance of the Conseil Géneral des Alpes-Maritimes and the French government, Lt. Kaspite and his team will be moving into their new quarters later this month.

The 8-million euro building was constructed as part of a 2004 pledge, by the Alpes-Maritimes Council and the French State, to develop 15 police stations, a helicopter base and two police headquarters in the Maritimes region. Althogether this project will take a number of years to complete at a total cost of 120 million euro.

Eric Ciotti, president of the General Council for the Alpes-Maritimes, said: “Part of our role is to ensure the first basic right of the people, which is the right to feel safe. This can only be done if we provide the resources the police require to do a good job and fight crime, this includes buildings.”
