Provence & Côte d'Azur: Mother tells of terror after St. Tropez’s roller coaster malfunction

Unexpected thrills

Children and teenagers were among those anticipating a thrill, when they signed up for a ride on a roller coaster in St. Tropez’s Azur Park last week. But, according to a Riviera Times reader, they got rather more of a shock than they were expecting, when the roller coaster’s hydraulic cable snapped.

"There were many young children left suspended in the air, a hundred metres plus high, with their parents (like me) watching helplessly from the ground, who were trapped on this roller coaster," Madeleine Crump told the RT after the event.

She called the emergency services but then had to endure a stomach churning 15 to 20 minutes wait for emergency services to arrive and bring her daughter and husband to safety. "We [the parents] all nearly died when we saw the unqualified, inexperienced fair ground workers escorting the children down from this horrific height, along a very slippery and dangerous oil covered ledge," the woman added.

However, although the incident left those both on and off the roller coaster a little shaken, everyone remained calm and all were eventually brought to safety. NM
