Provence & Côte d'Azur: High speed train lines disrupted after copper wire thefts

Trains delayed after lines cut

Travellers are experiencing delays on train lines today after thieves stole copper cables from Vaumort, a village south of Paris. Southern lines continue to experience 'severe' delays and travellers are advised to consult the SNCF website.

SNCF engineers worked through the night to get the trainlines functioning again

Lines to Lyon , Perpignan, Marseille, Nice, Barcelona and Geneva are affected and thousands of people have been stalled by the disturbances. The problem was caused after thieves cut cables last night, 25th July, causing signal failures and the halting of TGV trains.

Although passengers have been put on replacement trains, it is advised that travellers check the SNCF website to see if their travel plans have been affected by the widespread delays.

The theft caused the immediate halting of TGV trains after an automatic system detected the problem. Although engineers have replaced the cables, delays will continue to affect south-east lines.
