Provence Côte d’Azur: Security van driver who stole 11.6 million euro is jailed for three years

Toni Musulin gets three years

It was billed as the crime of the century in France when a security van driver drove off with 11.6 million euros from a bank in Lyon in November last year. For eleven days Tony Musulin was on the run before unexpectedly handing himself over to police in Monaco. Five months later and he has been jailed for three years and fined 45,000 euros for attempted car insurance fraud over a Ferrari.

On 5 November, Musulin drove off in the security van while two of his colleagues were making another collection. More than 9 million euros were later discovered on 7 November in a garage that he had rented under a false name, but there is no sign of the remaining 2.5 million and Musulin swears he has no idea where it is.

At the time, he was hailed as a Robin Hood type character by some and became a star of the internet because of the lack of violence and sheer audacity of the crime. He had been working for the Swedish-based secure cash transportation company, Loomis, for ten years when he drove off with the money. During the trial he claimed that he had not been treated fairly by his employers. Perhaps a life of riley awaits him on his release. CL
