Provence & Côte d'Azur: Over a 100 people stuck at local airport as Algerian plane strike leaves thousands of travelers suffering all over France

Stranded at Nice Côte d’Azur

120 passengers bound for Constantine, Algeria suffered horrific delays at Nice Côte d’Azur airport this week. Their ordeal began on Monday morning when, just after checking in their luggage, the passengers learnt that a strike by Air Algérie cabin crew staff was going to delay all flights to Algeria.

They were then told to wait in the boarding lounge until further notification.

As more time passed, passengers became increasingly frustrated at the lack of information being provided. Many were reluctant to leave the airport, as they feared that they would miss hearing vital transit information. After spending the night in cramped conditions, an airport spokesperson told the passengers that a flight would be arranged to take them to Algeria, once the strike was over.

After hours in uncomfortable conditions, passengers were upset that they were not notified earlier. However, Isabelle Baumelle, head of the department in charge of the airport’s terminals, maintained that the staff worked as diligently as they could, bringing food and other necessary items as needed.

The fallout from the airline strike was felt across France, with a total of 1500 passengers spending the night in Orly-South, Charles De Gaulle and Marseille-Provence airports. Passengers in Algeria were also facing an air travel shutdown, with only two flights out of 25 taking-off from the International Airport Houari Boumediene in Algiers.

This comes as no surprise to me. First was the UK and now it's France, lovers of strikes.
