Provence & Côte d'Azur: Two metre animal sighted three times in 24 hours
Shark spotted in Saint-Tropez port
Local diver Nicolas Faucon told Var Matin that he had spotted a two metre long shark in the water around 11.30am on Saturday. “It was about half a metre away from me. It’s not something you see every day,” he said.
Faucon alerted the authorities immediately following the sighting, although the port diver said that the animal didn’t appear aggressive. “It looked at me and changed direction,” he added.
Faucon who is responsible for untangling rigging and anchors on the seabed spotted the shark an hour later. This time I had the impression that the shark was afraid when he saw me, and therefore took a hurry to escape," he said.
There are other reports that the shark was spotted around 3am on Sunday morning.
Last August beaches in Cagnes-sur-Mer, St. Laurent-du-Var and Villeneuve-Loubet were forced to raise the red ‘no swimming’ flag after suspected shark sightings just off the coastline.
