Provence & Côte d'Azur: The Nikaïa will be taken over by bands and fans alike
Rock Revelations final tonight
A new generation of rock is being born in the Côte d’Azur. Bands from across the Riviera have been battling it out to win the Rock Revelations competition that could earn them a spot on stage at this summer’s Amp It Up festival, playing alongside some of the rock world’s biggest names. The final is tonight and tensions are running high.
Having fought through the early stages of the competition which saw 35 local bands play at venues across the Côte d’Azur, four bands have managed to get through to the finals which will take place tonight in the massive Nikaïa stadium, just outside of NICE, at 7.30pm.
Flow Ink, The Running Birds, GCM & The Warriors, and JDO (Jus d’Orange) will be taking to the stage with the hope that the jury will pick them as the winners of the eclectic event.
The victorious band will win a place playing alongside French rocker Jean-Louis Aubert, the founder of Telephone and recipient of the prestigious French Best Tour Award in 2011 at the Amp It Up event on 26th July.
The Rock Revelations initiative aims to bring attention and awareness to the Riviera’s local rock music scene – both bands and venues. Akator in Nice, Morrisons in Cannes, Café de la Place in Le Rouret, and Ekinox in Antibes all hosted the preliminary rounds of the Rock Revelations in early April, which attracted fans from all over the south of France.
The Alpes Maritimes General Council has also gotten behind the scheme and has offered the winners an opportunity to play at three separate concerts during the “Soirees Estivales” programme next year.
