Provence & Côte d’Azur: Pay at the station and take a quick trip around Nice

Pay by card for your vélo bleu

Vélo bleu - the cheap, fun and environmentally friendly way to get around Nice has just launched a brand new payment system. Users can now simply use a credit card at selected self-service stations across the city for easier access to the transport system.

There are currently 1,750 bikes at 175 stations dotted across the city, and a further four more are expected to open in Saint-Laurent-du-Var and Cagnes-sur-Mer before the end of March 2012.

Thanks to a new payment system launched by the Mayor of Nice, Chrisitan Estrosi, on Saturday 18th February, Vélo Bleu users can now pay by credit card to use the self-service bikes at the following stations: Place Masséna, boulevard Dubouchage, Nice-ville train station, Riquier, Saint-Laurent du Var, Promenade des Anglais and boulevard de la plage in Cagnes-sur-Mer.

Three other stations on boulevard Jean Jaurès, quai des Etats-Unis and on the Promenade des Anglais will also be installed with the new payment system in mid March.

Sounds like a very good idea - will certainly save all the hassle I used to have with the velo bleus!
