Provence & Côte d’Azur: No flights between 11pm and 6am
Night flights removed from Nice airport?
Christian Estrosi has urged the director of Nice airport, Hervé de Place, to support his plans to stop night flights at the popular transport hub.
Estrosi said that “the crack down against noise pollution began in October 2010 when one of the airport’s noisiest aircraft’s was forbidden to fly between 11pm and 6am. However, today there are still some commercial and business flights that disturb over 200,000 residents in the Metropolis during the night.
“I hope that like Orly airport (in Paris) this common sense policy can be put in place as soon as possible.”
The President of the Metropolis has requested that these steps be put into action before autumn 2012 to significantly reduce noise pollution on the Promenade des Anglais.
Meanwhile, Estrosi also asked the airport to "increase parking capacity by 50 to 70 spaces,” in line with plans to build a new terminal at the airport.
In the next few days a meeting will take place between Estrosi and authorities to determine “concrete” solutions for this plan.
Nice Côte d'Azur airport has refused to comment, despite numerous requests by The Riviera Times.
