Provence & Côte d’Azur: New project aims "to create a modern and innovative hub"
Nice-Thiers station facelift revealed
Built in 1867, the station is known for its classic Parisian style architecture, however in recent years the building has become slightly dated and in need of a complete renovation.
The transformation project spearheaded by the City of Nice in collaboration with Nice Urban Community, the General Council, French rail network and SNCF, aims to create a modern and innovative transport hub.
The station will sport a completely fresh new look, with renovation works on the underpass, platforms, main entrance and car park. A large square will replace the current car park “to encourage pedestrians to walk or take the tram located 250 metres away from the station,” said Dominique Lécluse, director of the project.
The initiative aims to improve passenger comfort and safety in the station, as well as improving transport services by creating a direct, quick link between Nice-Thiers and the tram stop situated on avenue Jean Médecin. In line with the renovation project, the station and platforms will be more accessible to all passengers, with better wheelchair and pushchair access.
Meanwhile, in a bid to lead the way as an eco-friendly city, during construction solar panels will be fitted to the roofs of kiosks at the building site.
As a popular tourist destination, the hub accommodates an impressive seven million passengers each year to various destinations across the country and Europe. It’s also the heart of the Riviera’s rail network, providing accessible routes to Italy, Monaco and Russia.

It looks good. BUT will there still be long queues to buy tickets?
