Provence & Côte d'Azur: Dentists are being investigated by the same team working on the PIP implant case

Marseille dentists accused of fraud

An enquiry has begun into the potential malpractice of dentists in Marseille. The Gendarme has been given the task of investigating the professionals who are accused of excessively treating patients to boost revenue.

Patients are reported to have returned time and time again to the dentist chair, unnecessarily

French media La Provence has revealed that the criminal investigation into 'fraud and injury' by dentists is being carried out by the same team leading the investigation into the Poly Implant Prosthesis (PIP) manufacturers based near Marseille.

The dentists being investigated, based in the north of Marseille, are thought to have performed an unnecessarily large amount of procedures on patients, to the potential detriment of their teeth and health.

France's national health insurance provider, the CMU, has also expressed its concern at the possibility that medical professionals could have received money by fraudulently treating patients.

According the La Provence, recently seized documents have revealed dozens of patients who have been wrongly treated by two dentists in the northern districts of Marseille.
