Marseille bomb defused
The construction site near the old harbour of Marseille where the bomb was discovered
It was a risky procedure and as a precaution 4,300 residents were evacuated from the area. They were able to return to their homes just after 10.30am.
Experts took the American 250-kilogram bomb 33 kilometres off the coast of Marseille at 4pm Wednesday afternoon.
Favourable weather conditions helped the defusal process to run smoothly.
