Provence & Côte d’Azur: Jeweller loses 500,000 euros worth of gems

Jewellery robbery at a sushi shop?

He thought he was going to a business lunch with a client and had no idea he was being set up. That's what a jeweller has told police, saying his guest stole a bag full of precious jewels worth 500,000 euros while they sat in a sushi restaurant in Cannes.

The suspect reportedly fled the O’Sushi restaurant in the heart of Cannes at around 2.40pm yesterday, taking with him the bag of gems.

An accomplice in the heist was allegedly waiting outside of the restaurant and the two men then escaped the crime scene on a scooter.

An investigation is underway.
