Provence & Côte d'Azur: Error with supplier sets west side pavement back to end of May

Jean Medicin refurbishment hit by delay

The second phase of pedestrianisation work on avenue Jean Medecin in Nice has been delayed until the end of May, city officials have announced.

Alain Philip, the municipal councillor in charge of urban development told Nice Matin that the setback to the redevelopment of the west side of the street between boulevard Victor Hugo and avenue George Clemenceau had been caused by problems with the Chinese supplier of the paving slabs.

Philip however announced that the resurfacing of avenue Jean Medecin would resume from 27th May.

The councillor also said that work on the east side of the road would continue at the same time so that the project will be able to fulfil its final deadline of full pedestrianisation between place Masséna and avenue Thiers by spring 2012.

Philip expects the second phase of the project to be completed by the end of July and work on the final stage to begin in October.
