Provence & Côte d’Azur: Fossan beach will be smoke free from 1st July until 31st August

It’s time to butt out in Menton this summer

With summer on its way, Menton’s famous Fossan beach is the latest to become one of the region’s fag-free zones, as the town council imposes a smoking ban on the popular sun-worshipping spot. The new initiative aims to protect the health and well-being of sun lovers in the Mediterranean town this summer.

Following in the footsteps of Nice and Cannes, who established similar smoking bans on the central Centenaire beach in Nice and two public beaches on the Croisette and La Bocca in Cannes last month, Fossan beach in Menton will become a smoke free zone for the summer.

In line with the new plans, smokers must butt out their cigarettes before entering the beach from 1st July until 31st August. However, the ban will only apply during the day, so from 8pm until 9am the following morning smokers will be able to light up on the beach.

Anyone caught violating the new law will face a fine and possible prosecution under new municipal laws.
