Provence & Côte d’Azur: Flag of excellence for a handful of region's ports
19 ports in PACA awarded blue flag
A host of harbours across PACA have been honoured with the prestigious Blue Flag award, marking their environmental and tourism excellence. A wave of blue flags will now fly in 14 ports in the Var and five in the Alpes Maritimes.
For over 25 years, the Blue Flag has been awarded to harbours to mark their excellence in environmental management and sustainable tourism policies.
In France, the number of ports being awarded for their excellence is increasing, from 77 in 2010 to a promising 87 this year.
Blue flag beaches 2012 in the Alpes Maritimes:
La Napoule (Mandelieu), Pierre Canto (Cannes), Camille Rayon (Antibes Golfe Juan), Vauban (Antibes) and Marina Baie des Anges.
Blue flag beaches 2012 in the Var:
Nouveau Port des Lecques (Saint Cyr sur Mer), Vieux Port des Lecques (Saint Cyr sur Mer), Port de Bommes les Mimosas, Port de la Coudoulière, Port de la Madrague (Saint Cyr sur Mer), Port de Plaisance Saint Pierre des Embiez, Port Fréjus, Port de Plaisance de Bandol, Port de Plaisance de Santa Lucia, Port de Plaisance les Marines de Cogolin, Port Miramar La Londe, Port Saint Pierre de Hyères les Palmiers, Port San Peïre des Issambres and Port du Lavandou.
To be eligible for the prestigious award, candidates must submit an application each year to the tourism board.
