Provence & Côte d'Azur: promenades shut to traffic throughout the region

Heavy swells close coast roads

Police have cordoned off a number of seaside roads throughout the Alpes-Maritimes as large waves continue to thrash the coast.

The Promenade des Anglais in Nice has been closed to the public and traffic, as well as promenades in Cannes and Cagnes sur Mer.

Several coast roads have been shut between Menton and Mandelieu, including the coast road in Antibes between Fort Carré and the Marina Baie des Anges at Villeneuve-Loubet.

Météo France says the heavy swells are coming from Sardinia and Corsica.

Meanwhile, storm warnings remain in place for the Var.

Authorities say the roads will remain closed until the evening, or when the waves subside.
