Provence & Côte d'Azur: Explore the ancient cathedral that sat atop Nice's famous château

Free tours of château ruins

For the first time, the City of Nice and the Heritage Centre are opening the excavation site at the château to the public, allowing people to explore the remains of the ancient cathedral.

Throughout the month of July, the public will have the opportunity to put themselves in the shoes of the archeologists and discover the incredible ruins and ancient buildings – all with the help of a guide. 

The tours are free and are limited to a group of 20 people at a time. Reservations are not necessary, and it is recommended that visitors wear protective clothing such as hats and sturdy shoes. Tours will not take place in bad weather.

Meeting point is on the esplanade of the château. 

Meeting days and hours:

Monday at 2pm and 3pm

Thursday at 10am, 11am, 2pm and 3pm

Friday at 10am and 11am
