The former mayor of Vence was convicted of the rape of his grandson Gabriel. However, in a bizarre turn of events, Gabriel retracted his accusation in early 2011, supposedly exonerating Mr Iacono.

The 76-year-old is currently free on probation, but must give himself up to authorities on 9th January to serve the nine year jail sentence that had been handed down.

Late November 2011, Mr Iacono's chances of freedom were denied by a court of appeal.
