Every student’s worst nightmare
Getting trapped inside a deserted school for the night seems more teenage horror flick than reality, but for one student in Cannes that's exactly what happened. After dozing off on school property, the terrified pupil woke up alone and trapped in the empty building.
When her daughter failed to come home from school on Monday, the girl’s mother raised the alarm and police in Cannes and Pegomas launched a widespread search for the missing teen.
Her mobile phone was dead, none of the school’s CCTV showed the girl, aged 18, getting on her usual bus home and there were no reports of an 18-year-old in any of the local hospitals – her parents feared the worst.
In an unusual but happy twist to the tale, the 18-year-old had simply fallen asleep in the nurses’ office after she had gone for a lie down due to stomach pains. Slipping in a deep slumber, the girl awoke at 9pm alone in the room.
She was finally able to get hold of her parents, assuring them she was “safe and sound” – if a little shocked by the situation – but merely locked inside the building.
