Provence & Côte d'Azur: France maintains third position in the Olympic medal table in London
Estrosi backs Nice for 2022 Winter Olympics
The Mayor of Nice has said that he is "determined" to welcome major sporting events to France, in particular the Winter Olympics to Nice in 2022, saying that "Nice has the potential to host a global sporting event".
The success of Niçoise swimmers in London has indeed shown the world the city's capacity to nurture world class talent, and it could help the mayor receive some strong support for a 2022 candidature.
Having just missed out on the opportunity to host the winter games in 2018, Estrosi, who is currently in London supporting local swimming heroes Camille Muffat and Yannick Agnel, has asserted that the dream of hosting the games in 2022 should not be marginalised and that the city is willing to work hard to realise its aims.
And as the mayor looks to the future, France is maintaining its position of third on the league table after Camille Muffat won a silver medal on Tuesday 31st July in the women's 200 metre freestyle. History was also made in the pool yesterday after Michael Phelps, winning a silver medal, became the most successful Olympian of all time.
