Provence & Côte d'Azur: Nice and Houston solidify a partnership that could lead to new scientific developments

Cross-Atlantic teamwork to fight against cancer

Representatives from Nice and the US city of Houston, Texas, met last week to strengthen their scientific partnership.

Doctors and representatives from Nice and Houston
Nice and Houston met together to solidify a partnership in scientific and cancer research.

The event, held at the National Assembly in the Côte capital, marked a turning point for both the Faculty of Medicine in Nice and the MD Anderson Medical Center - the number one cancer research and treatment facility in the world. Now the organisations have cemented a scientific partnership that was sparked two decades ago. By extension Nice’s Centre Antoine Lacassagne, a leading center for combating cancer in the Côte d’Azur and increasing the quality of care, is also included in the partnership.

Rudy Salles, Deputy Mayor for Tourism and International Relations in Nice, and Daniel Benchimol, Deputy Mayor of Public Health, Hygiene, and Public Sanitation in Nice, attended the event as well as several neurosurgeons and specialists from Houston.

The medical stars gathered were reminded of the research and practices of the medical centres that have meant that they have become among the best in the world. MD. Anderson said they are willing to fortify their relationship with Nice with another engagement… only this time in Houston.
