Provence & Côte d'Azur: Cause of death of British man in Cannes remains a mystery

Cause of death unknown

An autopsy has failed to determine exactly what caused the death of a British man killed during a street brawl in Cannes earlier this week.

Lee Elton Fischer, 37-years-old, was an ex-British solider who had served in Iraq and Afghanistan, and was working at the World Tax Free trade show in Cannes. He died in the early hours of Monday morning after what witnesses say was a street fight involving three other men.

The autopsy revealed possible internal bleeding, but the coroner was unable to come to a conclusive result. Three suspects, aged between 25 and 30, remain in custody.

The man’s wife is reportedly being comforted at their home in Sandhurst. Investigations are continuing.
