Provence & Côte d'Azur: Attack on a bus after passenger confronted for not travelling with a ticket

Bus controller attacked

A bus controller has been attacked after confronting a passenger who didn't have a ticket in Nice. It comes amid a string of incidents where travel officials are being attacked on public transport.

The attack took place on Thursday 14th at around 10pm. The controller, who was on a bus travelling through the centre of Nice, asked a passenger for his ticket. While trying to escape, the man hit the victim, leaving him with a bleeding wound.Police apprehended the assailant soon after.

The bus controller was taken to hospital with minor injuries. He was later joined by his attacker who showed signs of ill health during questionning.

The attack is the latest in a growing number of cases of violence against transport officials. Last weekend, a tram driver was hit around the head and badly wounded when he tried to break up a fight.
