Provence & Côte d’Azur: Petrol station to close by next month

BP depot to close in Pugets-sur-Argens

As part of a national prevention plan against environmental damage, the BP plant in Puget-sur-Argens is set to close its doors next month. There are fears that the BP plant is polluting roads and areas close by.

It’s a rap for one of the two petrol depots based in Puget-sur-Argens, with the BP station in the process of dismantling, which is due to finish by the end of January. It comes after concerns arose that the station's six tanks, containing almost 40,000 cubic metres worth of hydrocarbon, were posing a threat to the busy RDN7 road and areas nearby.

An underground examination and clean-up of the plant is to follow before the summer of 2012, while the second PPRT (Plan de Prévention des Risques Technologiques) prevention plan is set to hit the SEVESO plant in Puget in the near future.

A pipeline from Fos-sur-Mer producing 53,000 metres cubed of hydrocarbon fuel powers DPCA, the Côte d’Azur’s main oil depot.
