A scene from the production of The Bright Stream

On 29th April at 5pm, sit back, relax and enjoy a dazzling and dynamic performance on screen by one of the biggest companies in ballet. Presented in high definition, this production presents a multitude of hilarious interactions, depicting the bewildering disillusion of love.

Bolshoi has become a distinct ballet company that can comfortably engage with issues of the past. The production of The Bright Stream offers a bold use of  boisterous folk music by Dmitri Shostakovich and a selection of dynamic dances, telling the witty tale of members of a Russian Collective Farm in the 1930s during the harvest festival – a grim period of Russian history.

The original version, produced in 1935 and choreographed by Fyodor Lopukhov, was banned when composer of the production Shostakovich was accused of creating an imaginative world and not addressing the serious reality of collective farms within the Soviet state.

Audiences will be bowled over by the display of lively and playful ballet as the company has discovered a fresh and innovative impetus with young choreographer Alexei Ratmansky, who has revitalised the Soviet ballet era, bringing it back into fashion, exerting an element of comedy.

The cinema screening is priced at 22 euros and 13 euros for children less than the age of 12.
