Provence & Côte d’Azur: Plans to reduce the massive water bills in the Alpes Maritimes have been announced by water company regulator SICASIL

Biggest fall in water bills ever

While gas prices across France hit record levels and increase financial pressure on home owners, it has been revealed that people living on the Côte d’Azur are at least going to soon benefit from the biggest fall in water rates of all time.

As of the 1st of July, the 500,000 plus people served by SICASIL, the water provider for the Alpes-Maritimes, will see their bills slashed by 25 per cent.

As a result of the price change, SICASIL's customers in Cannes, Le Cannet, Mougins, Pégomas and Vallauris will pay the lowest charges in France, on average around 90 euros a year.

This means that water bills on the French Riviera will be 35 per cent lower than the nationwide norm.

The reduction was brought about by a new contract between the SICASIL and the Lyonnaise des Eaux and comes hot on the heels of a 10 percent reduction in April.

The new measure will remain in place until 2023.

David Lisnard, Chairman of SICASIL and deputy mayor of Cannes, said that the proposal is a big step in the right direction and that the firm will continue to work closely with the government and other regulators to examine the practicality of options to aid customers.
