Provence & Côte d'Azur: Around 60,000 euros worth of damage
Bakery ram raid
The burglary took place at around 2am on Saturday at boulevard du Général De Gaulle.
After breaking through the windows of the bakery, the criminals took money from the till. Unfortunately for them, a passer-by intervened and the thieves abandoned their loot and fled the scene. A police patrol vehicle nearby caught one of the robbers. He remains in custody and awaits an appearance in court.
The owner of the bakery, Vanessa Maiu Reis told the Nice Matin, "in order to remain positive, we are telling ourselves that it's only material things, but it's badly damaged."
"They have destroyed the window, broken the interior marble work surfaces and the tills. There is at least 60,000 euros worth of damage."
Nonetheless, the owner expected to open the bakery to customers today.
