Provence & Côte d'Azur: The world's largest yacht docks in Beaulieu

A very special yacht show

Since the beginning of this week, Beaulieu-sur-Mer has had a very special guest. The largest yacht in the world, The Eclipse, has been gracing the horizon, owned by Russian billionaire Roman Abramovitch.

The Ecplise measures an impressive 162.5 metres. Previously, the title was claimed by Sheikh Mohammed’s yacht, Dubai. That mega yacht has now dropped ranks to second largest in the world, trailing by a meagre 50 centimetres.

It is docked next to the 113 metre Le Grand Bleu, also formerly owned by the shiekh. But he gave that one to a friend as a present in 2006.

At 900 million euros, it is not surprising that the yacht reportedly has two helicopter airfields, three speedboats, jaccuzis, and a cinema room, not to mention the bulletproof windows. According to local media, the shiekh and his friend regularly visit the French Riviera.

It’s an amuse-bouche of sorts in the lead up to the Monaco Yacht Show in September, when boats of all shapes and sizes will fill the harbour.
