Provence & Côte d'Azur: The decision on Nice's new slogan is just around the corner
A new name for Nice?
It’s the capital of the Riviera with its long stretching bay, azure waters and a history steeped in heritage, but what shall we call it? That’s the question the Mayor of Nice put to residents in March when the city began its search for a new slogan as part of a new international tourism promotion campaign back in March. And the results are in.
More than 1,000 Niçois citizens took part in a region-wide campaign to find Nice’s new title, and the various entries – each with their own degree of pride and creativity – have been whittled down to just five compositions by a selected jury panel.
Now, the choice is up to you. Choose between:
- Nice la belle
- Nice label
- Nice label identité
- Juste Nice
- Tellement Nice
People living in Nice, the true heart of the Côte d’Azur, are being asked to pick their favourite and the winning slogan will later be integrated into the city’s tourism initiative.

But they are all French words. I really don't think tourists would understand these slogans, if it has to be a French word then at least use one of the many instantly recognisable anglisised descriptive words (grandeur etc) Heaven knows what a tellement is - sounds very off-putting.

If 'Neal' is reading about Nice in the Riviera Times ... and he doesn't even know enough French to understand 'tellement' ... then he should not be commenting on the choice offered. I think 'Nice la Belle' is, well, tellement bien, that it should be chosen.

Nice la Belle is a great tourism slogan , it can apply to places in Nice , it's people, customs and culture as to the belle arquitecture .

I think Nice la belle sounds great. Although I speak French fluently and know what tellement means, the clue is in the expression "part of an international tourist initiative" so the name should be something that everyone would understand.

From an English perspective only Nice la belle works. The others would be lost on the international community.
