Monaco: Heli Air pursues check-in strategy for Monaco-Nice airport shuttle

Stemming the downturn

Heli Air Monaco is in the process of finalising a deal with the authorities, which will allow its customers to check-in to international flights at Nice Côte d’Azur airport from its base in Monaco.

A quick little flight: Monaco to Nice Airport in just seven minutes

The company, which carries between 70,000 and 100,000 passengers a year, provides a shuttle service to customers travelling to Cannes, Italy, Saint-Tropez and even Corsica.

The project will allow customers who use the shuttle service between the heliport in Fontvieille, Monaco and Nice Côte d’Azur airport to avoid many of the stresses of airport travel.

Customers can check-in for their flight before boarding the helicopter and on arrival in Nice will be taken straight through to the departure lounge.

Founded in 1976, Heli Air Monaco has a fleet of 14 helicopters and operates 20 daily shuttles between Monaco heliport and Nice Côte d’Azur airport. The company hopes this latest project will boost falling passenger numbers taking the Monaco-Nice Airport shuttle. Despite the service only taking seven minutes, business is down 30-40 per cent partly due to the financial crisis but also because of the hassle of having, effectively, to check baggage in twice.

The project is expected to be up and running by the end of the year.
