Monaco: Prince plays in football match to raise money for children’s charity
Prince Albert joins F1’s Schumacher on the pitch for charity
A handful of Formula 1 stars left their racing cars on the track on Tuesday to battle it out with Prince Albert of Monaco on the football pitch, as they took part in a friendly charity match to raise money for the AMADE children’s association. Patron of the charity, Princess Charlene, showed her support for the teams as she cheered from the sideline.
Michael Schumacher and his Formula 1 drivers took on Prince Albert’s team, the Star Team, for children at Stade Louis II on Tuesday 22nd May. Big names including former cyclist Claudio Chiappucci, Marco Simone, Fernando Alonso, Stefano Coletti, Felipe Massa and Alexandra of Hanover all played in the match.
Following a quick-footed run from Coletti, Massa scored the opening goal, putting the delighted drivers ahead. It was soon challenged by a duo attack from Marco Simone and Sonny Anderson putting the Star Team back in the game. However, two minutes later a sneaky goal by Pavel Nedved put the Formula 1 drivers back in front. But a late equalising goal from Ghirelli in the 85th minute, ended the match with a 2-2 draw.
