Monaco: Les Ballets de Monte Carlo's line up of performances for June are announced

Next month's programme for Les Ballets de Monte Carlo

The classical ballet company, Les Ballet de Monte Carlo, is offering a feast of captivating and rhythmical performances next month including a tour around Europe and a sequence of riveting performances in the Principality. It's an eclectic and thrilling selection of choreographed dances, and here is an overview of what's in store…

Sleeping beauty (Belles au Bois Dormant)

Students from the Princess Grace Dance Academy will present on the 28th and 29th June their rendition of the classical fairytale, Sleeping Beauty. The production will take place in the Salle Garnier at the Opera de Monte Carlo and is comprised of three emblematic, diverse choreographed acts of the fantasy.

One unconventional interpretation, choreographed by Jean-Christophe Maillot, showcases an expressive retelling of the fairytale with a contemporary twist, abandoning the recognised prettiness of the classical version.

The show will commence at 8pm and tickets are priced at eight euros per person. For more information and to reserve tickets, contact the Salle Garnier de L'Opéra de Monte Carlo on 00377 98 06 28 28

Sequence 8

On the 20th and 22nd July dancers from the company Les 7 doigts de la main  will perform for one last time at the Monaco Dance Forum their production Sequence 8. This mind blowing spectacle has seduced millions of spectators worldwide and merges together a range of diverse artistic forms of circus art, drama and dancing, creating one unique and stimulating show.

The original choreography has caught the eye of many professionals, and dancers have been invited to perform this spectacle at a range of high profile, international celebrations, events and ceremonies. The performance goes against the traditional conforms of dancing and instead presents an energetic, revitalising burst of creativity.

The show will begin at 8.30pm and prices for tickets range between 10 and 33 euros. For more information about these performances and to reserve tickets, contact the Salles des Princes du Grimaldi Forum on 00377 99 99 30 00

Monte Carlo Company on tour

After the success of its tour of Asia and the United States, the Monte Carlo Company is launching a summer programme, presenting the emblematic choreography of Jean-Christophe Maillot. The programme includes a stark rendering of Shakespeare's tale Romeo and Julliet, set to music by Sergei Prokofiev. The production focuses on the dualities and ambiguities of adolescence. The performance will take place in Cologne on the 2nd and 3rd June.

The company will also be presenting a fluid and melodramatic performance of the one set operette, Daphnis et Chloé at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow. This piece highlights the tender and emotional relationship between a couple, depicting the art of love. The company will perform this production with the San Francisco Ballet as well as the Bolchoi Ballet Company.

A performance of the classic fairytale of Cendrillon (Cinderella) is set to take place between the 13th and 15th June in Oviedo and Vottoria in Spain.

This summer programme also involves performances of Ouverture des Festivals de Vaison Dance in Vaison La Romaine on the 9th and 10th July and Estivales de l'Archipel in Perpignan on the 9th and 10th July.
