The famous medal, established in 1939, is presented to selected athletes for their outstanding performance and exemplary practice in contributing to physical education and sports development in the Principality.

Despite originating from Serbia, the current world number one lives and trains in Monaco.

This week, Djokovic gets ready to take on the Monte Carlo Rolex Masters reigning champion, Rafael Nadal. The 25-year-old Spaniard has won the last seven tournaments and is the acclaimed ‘King of Monte Carlo’.

The tennis star is also setting his sights on becoming the first player to win back-to-back ATP Masters 1000 titles in Miami and Monte Carlo.

The tournament will run until 22nd April.
