People & Lifestyle: Town's shopping festival aims to be number one trend spotter ahead of 2011's Autumn/Winter season
Cannes to put its best fashion foot forward and delight shoppers this April
The glamorous Côte town, known for it's world-famous film festival, has been vying in recent times to become one of France's main shopping hubs. The Cannes shopping festival (21st to 24th April at the Centre-Croissette) is an integral part of achieving this ambition and, as a result, they pull in the most celebrated fashion designers and stylists, the biggest labels and most revered art dealers and galleriests.
This year the event will place a strong emphasis to ‘sustainable fashion, shopping and the art of living’ and a number of events will be devoted to this theme over the four-day programme. So, for example, this year, the opening day of the festival has been taken over by eco-couture designer FMK.
There will be numerous other brands represented at the event, including Calvin Klein, HOM, Desigual, Nadia Autier and Louis Purple, and visitors can view ready-to-wear collections and fashion shows at the grand auditorium du Palais des Festivals.
Patisserie genius Jean Luc Pele will also be in town, enticing the taste bubs of fashionistas with his ‘chocolate creation’ and other highlights will include a private exhibition of photographs by Gilles Jacob, president of the Cannes film festival, and cocktail parties hosted by some of the participating fashion companies.
