People & Lifestyle: It's easy to dazzle the stars when you know how
Cannes do glitz
Fashion this year on the Croisette will be at its best and more glamourous than ever. If you hold a golden ticket to one of the events or are just planning to mingle, The RT’s fashion tips will help you find the right dress to command the attention of the red carpet paparazzi.
The Cannes film festival is renowned for daring fashion and has become a catwalk for some of Europe’s most dazzling couture.
Whether it be local designers, like our own Frédérique Kragbé, or a dress brought in Paris; the festival showcases everything from the ultra glamorous to the revealing to the flat out bad taste. Just because you shopped on Avenue Montaigne doesn’t mean your dress is right for climbing Les Marches.
The secret to looking fabulous next to a celebrity is to keep your style easy, natural and feminine. Some of the best dressed at the Oscars avoided the puffy frills and ball gowns and shone with a more sophisticated silhouette.
Dressing up for events this season is all about elegance and keeping the shape simple. Whether you opt for a floor-sweeping gown or want to keep it cocktail, a higher waist or a slightly trumpet skirt will have you looking glamorous throughout the evening. Try a dress in one of this spring’s blushing colours and avoid printed numbers that tend to look more cheap than chic. A personal favourite for this year’s festival is Rachel Gilbert’s gold beaded gown; ideal for walking the red carpet with a perfect vintage look.
One of the advantages of buying a heavily detailed dress is being able to keep accessories to a minimum as well as hair and makeup. All you’ll need to be photographed at this year’s festival is light smokey eyes and your hair in effortless looking waves.
If a longer length is not right for you try a shorter cocktail dress in one of this season’s must have pastels. The length and colour is youthful and fun, perfect for a drink at the Martinez or for a super glamorous dinner. If you decide to go mini then a romantic updo, a simple stiletto and vintage clutch is all the look needs to go from pretty to absolutely gorgeous.
The Riviera is renowned for the festival and it is also notorious for defying the fashion trends. As the world watches the celebrity circus at this year’s Festival de Cannes, we can dazzle them with what we do best…glitz, beauty, and above all glamour. For ideas on where to get that dress, you can’t do better than the film capital itself.
